Editor
Editors in general, are in charge of almost all functions of the publication. Their primary responsibility is to supervise the functions of compilation, collection, selection and presentation of news. Also, requisite and desirable qualities are creativity, curiosity, a broad range of knowledge, self-motivation, and perseverance.
Editors can be broadly divided into three categories — chief editor, sub editor, and news/feature editor. For being an editor generally a broad liberal arts background is requisite and desirable, but some employers prefer a degree in communications, journalism, or English. However, while specializing in a particular area, a degree in that field is all important. Beginning writers and editors may start writing and editing immediately after completion of their requisite courses, in numerous smaller companies.
In larger organizations those starting out may do research, fact checking, or copy editing works, before moving onto the full-scale writing or editing assignments. An editor's works generally or exclusively include the planning the content of diverse books, journals, and magazines, reviewing and editing drafts of books and articles; reviewing book proposals and deciding on their own whether to buy the publication rights.
